General Information
Fragile X Syndrome, also known as Martin-Bell syndrome, Escalante's Syndrome and FXS, is the leading single gene cause of autism. It is a genetic syndrome seen mostly among boys, because it is an X-linked or sex-linked trait. This means that FXS only travels on the X chromosome, making boys more prone to it. It is possible for females to have it as well, but it is rare.
